Edinam Quashie, a determined farmer from Afife in the Ketu North Constituency of Ghana’s Volta Region, began his journey with just 3 acres of maize. Today, he operates J&E Green Ways Farms Limited, managing 30 acres of maize fields in Afife and Tadzewu. Through hard work and a commitment to sustainability, Edinam has transformed his farm into a thriving agribusiness, creating economic opportunities for his community.
With Nobowa Africa’s Dedicated Farm Support program, Edinam expanded his operations and adopted climate-smart farming techniques. These included crop rotation, soil health management, and efficient irrigation practices, which helped him overcome challenges like erratic rainfall and soil degradation. As a result, his maize yields increased significantly, enabling him to venture into value addition.
Edinam now processes his maize into high-quality corn flour, a staple in many Ghanaian households. His company, J&E Green Ways Farms Limited, has become a source of livelihood for many, employing over 100 farmers over the years. Currently, he provides jobs for 20 casual workers, all women, and three permanent male farmhands. In addition, he employs two permanent female staff who oversee the marketing and sales of his corn flour products.
Edinam’s story is a testament to the power of sustainable agriculture and innovative entrepreneurship. He has improved his livelihood and empowered his community, especially women, by creating employment opportunities and inspiring others to embrace modern farming practices.
With Nobowa Africa’s ongoing support, Edinam’s vision for growth remains steadfast. He continues to drive change and prosperity, proving that smallholder farmers can become key players in the agricultural value chain with the right tools and determination.
